- Social Sciences and Humanities (SOC)
- Economic Sciences (ECO)
Our research deals with the designing of new tools to tackle social demands in the European Union, enhancing convergence and solidarity. The deepening in the social dimension of the EU is in the institutional agenda particularly since the boost of the crisis and the effects of austerity policies; new instruments arise, as the European Pillar of Social Rights, but deep changes in legal instruments, economic policies and social structures are needed to allow progress in this direction. We aim to propose changes of the current system of governance and concrete instruments to contribute to a more inclusive legal and economic environment addressing people’s needs.
We welcome projects aimed at exploring the mainstreaming of social needs in the study of:
– economic governance
– social governance
– legal instruments to develop social changes
– the role of civil society and social organizations
– social innovation as an engine of change
– policies to enhance inclusion

Social Innovation: Driving Force of Social Change FP7-SSH-2013-1 INTERDISCIPLINARY COLLABORATION
This proposal is interdisciplinary in both methodological and academic approach; it gathers aspects referred to EU Law, Economic Policy and Social Science. The multidisplinary focus is essential in the team, integrated by Lawyers, Economists and Social Scientists. The team aims to reach multi perspective solutions to the problems studied, thar’s why interdisciplinary collaboration is essential.
Interdisciplinariety is, in fact, one of the strengths of the host unit, with members specialized in Economics, Law and Social Science; as a consequence, the projects and academic publications given by the research team count on a combination of these methodologies and perspectives. Synergies of this proposal with projects developed by the research team at this moment (on solidarity, social innovation, minimum income, refuges integration, among others) are expected. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION
The project is fully aligned with the H2020 topic: Europe in a changing world – Inclusive, innovative and reflective societies. In particular with the following challenge: “Reversing inequalities in Europe. For more inclusive societies to take shape in the medium term, coherent visions will need to be devised on how to foster a social and economic framework that promotes fairness and sustainability in Europe” https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/en/h2020-section/europe-changing-world-inclusive-innovative-and-reflective-societies.
The internationalization of this proposal is supported first, by the study field of the project itself as it deals with the analysis of a transnational governance instrument (requiring an international perspective and data collection). Second, the project final results will have an international dimension (as they will include proposals for the whole EU or for other regional integrations). At the same time, the host unity has proved its internationalization skills as it has participated in diverse international and European projects. INTERSECTORAL COLLABORATION
The research team has a wide experience in co-creating research projects with public and private agents, mainly the Direction of Social Economy of the Basque Government as well as diverse NGOs. According to the topic defined with the candidate collaboration with other agents will be enhanced and supported by the team. IMPACT
Social impact will be promoted since the design of the research project to be developed by the candidate, enhancing co-creation with the actors involved (e.g. regional policy makers or social organisations). Equally, the participation of social agents during the research will be particularly supported by the team. The dissemination of the results will be done not only at scientific level but also through the web and blog of the team as well as through public seminars and meeting with public officers, aiming to reach the society and policy makers. INNOVATION
As expressed above, the proposal focuses in changes needed. The instruments deployed by the EU seemed no to be enough to overcome inequalities. New instruments, as the European Pillar of Social Rights or the European Semester show some advances in the proposals of social objectives but not in their enforcement. This proposal is precisely based in the hypothesis of the need of proposing innovative changes of the current system of governance and concrete instruments to contribute to a more inclusive legal and economic environment INCLUSION
How will the hosting offer integrate the inclusion dimension?
Inclusion dimension is a key aspect in the research team aimed to social development for people. Gender issues and inclusion are cross cutting topics in the team scientific results.
As expressed in the proposal, its aim is to deepening in the social dimension of the EU, designing of new tools to tackle social demands, enhancing convergence and solidarity.
